mother 3.2 memory of a robotic surrogate

Background

Chemical contraceptives, IVF and test tube babies are general practice. Robotic childcare is just about to enter everyday life in Korea and Japan. Researchers are currently working on the development of an artificial uterus. Will the robotic surrogate mother be next?

But what would happen to us if we had machines that were designed to breed us, to nurture us and to provide us with the care we would have received from our human parents? Would we develop deep emotional relationships with these machines?

This project is a poetic design story about the implications of co-habitating with robots.
