I was working as Associate Professor at the design department at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts in Norway from summer 2002 to summer 2006. In that role I was responsible for the education in interactive communication linked to digital media in the department's subject area "Visual Communication".
My first task as a newcomer to the organisation was the creation of the following courses: Information Architecture and Web design, Foundations of interactive communication (basic principles of interaction, foundations of computational design) and Information Visualisation on BA level. Additionally I acted as tutor for students in the department's MA-design program.
Further, I took an active part in the design department's profiling work — defining its future directions and educational focus points, establishing national and international relations.
As a representative of my university I visited academic institutions engaged in Interaction Design in Europe and attended related conferences. The objective was to expand the design department into a new subject area in Interaction Design.
On my initiative a closed dialogue with Bergen University's departments of Information- and Media sciences and Humanistic Informatics was established, resulting in several common activities.
My other tasks included organising internal workshops and seminars with international guest teachers giving students from both fine arts and design backgrounds the framework to meet and to work together. Further, I have set up the academy's first weblog in 2004 as another forum for cross-departmental dialogue.
