Against the backdrop of increasing interest in new epistemologies, non-anthropocentric viewpoints, and sophisticated forms of science communication, Susanna Hertrich’s solo exhibition creates sensuous-intellectual points of access at the intersection of insight and aesthetic experience, beyond disciplinary boundaries.
Between speculative futures and material history, a space emerges in which poetic precision and the logic of scientific research meet. Hertrich’s works function here not as illustrations of research but as open experimental setups: restless, shifting thought-figures that make new kinds of knowledge visible. Crystalline Cosmologies. Restless Arrangements thus reveals that art and science are not opposites, but different tools for understanding—and rethinking the world.
On display at the foyer of the Kunstmuseum is the artistic–experimental research project SENSORIUM OF ANIMALS. The projects departs from Peter’s elephant-nose fish, an animal which perceives its environment through self-generated electromagnetic fields. This special sensory capacity is interwoven with the immaterial signal worlds of our technological present—Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID. An »imaginary laboratory« unfolds, made up of prototypes, sketches, films, tools, and other sources, this research is shown as a process.
